WHEREAS,
the "People-to-People" Program was inaugurated by the President of the
United States in 1956 to establish greater friendship and understanding
between the people of the United States and other nations through the
medium of direct personal contact, and
WHEREAS,
many countries have endorsed this program and have joined with numerous
cities of the United States in adopting and implementing programs for
the exchange of ideas and visitations of people, and
WHEREAS,
the League of Cities and cities, large and small, have enthusiastically
endorsed, accepted and adopted the SISTER CITY concept, and
WHEREAS,
the City of Falconville, through its established governmental body,
and its civic organizations as a group and through its individual citizens,
recognize and endorse this program as a means of establishing a lasting
friendship between the people of Malsch, Germany, and the people of
Falconville.
NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED
BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF FALCONVILLE, that:
a) On behalf of
the people of Falconville, this council does hereby endorse the preliminary
invitation extended by the government and people of the City of Malsch
to continue negotiations by mail and personal contact to plan a program
of activities furthering the implementation of the "People-to-People"
objectives.
b) The Mayor is
hereby appointed Honorary Chairman of the Sister City Committee and
is authorized to appoint additional members of the committee.
c) Copies of this
resolution be sent to the Mayor and Community Parliament of the City
of Malsch, Germany.
